An O-ring is the worlds most commonly used sealing device and the worlds simplest sealing device. An O-ring is exceptionally versatile, with a wide range of applications ranging from garden hose couplings to critical aerospace duties.

Seal House offers a huge range of stock, moulded O-rings, in both imperial and metric sizes, including Encapsulated O-rings and Quad Rings and we can supply O-ring Kits whose contents are tailored to suit specific client needs.

PTFE or Teflon®-coated O-rings combine the resilience and sealing force of an elastomer with the chemical resistance of Teflon®.
Elastomer or Rubber O-rings often suffer from high friction and limited resistance to aggressive chemicals and gas permeation, whereas
O-rings are rigid with no effective memory and high compression set.
By coating a core of Silicon or Viton® with a relatively thin encapsulation of Teflon®, an O-ring is produced which has maximum sealing capability:
  • Solvent resistant
  • Chemically inert (except for attack by alkaline metals, fluorine and some halogenated compounds at high temperatures)
  • Very low permeability to gases
  • They have a memory near to that of rubber O-rings
  • The Teflon® coatings provide an excellent abrasion resistance

Quad Rings can be used in standard O-ring grooves or used in deeper Quad Ring- specific grooves which result in less friction and longer seal life.
Seal House stocks many different AS568 sized Quad Rings in either 70 Durometer Nitrile, or 75 Durometer Viton®.

Seal House stocks a range of different O-ring Kits which contain O-rings and seals in an assortment of different shapes and sizes.

Materials offered in these Kits range from standard compounds such as multipurpose Nitrile Rubber (Buna-N), to more exotic materials such as Viton® (generically called fluorocarbon) and Teflon® (also called PTFE).

All Seal House O-ring Kits come in sturdy plastic containers. Each container includes helpful cards or labels indicating the size and quantity of seals in each compartment.

O-Ring Cord is a continuous extruded cord used to fabricate custom O-rings where standard sizes are not suitable.

O-ring Cord is supplied by the metre to any length and is made from the following compounds: Nitrile, Viton, EPDM, Silicon, and Neoprene. Other compounds are also available if required.

O-ring Cord is available in both Metric and Imperial sizes ranging from 1.5mm (1/16 inch) upwards to 40mm, and Shore Hardness ranges from 25 Shore to 90 Shore.
Seal house can manufacture O-rings on request using O-ring Cord and a glue joint, or we can weld the joint to produce a Vulcanised O-ring.

Seal House also supplies the Splicing Kits required to make your own O-rings.

Note that it is preferable that an O-ring made using O-ring Cord be used in a static application because of inherent weakness in the glue joint. A stronger joint may be achieved using welding (or Vulcanising) technology.

How To Make An O-Ring
To calculate the correct length of cord required, use the formula ((OD+ID) / 2) x Pi = Length. (Pi = 3.14159).This will then give the correct length of cord required.
  • Use the splicing aid and a very sharp knife to make a cut in the material at a right angle (ensure that all surfaces to be glued are free of oil or grease and avoid touching these surfaces).
  • Spread a thin layer of Adhesive O-ring Glue over one side of the cut (a thin layer provides the best results).
  • In order to join the two sides cleanly, use the V section on the splicing aid. Match both surfaces together and press firmly for 15 seconds.
  • Allow the glue to dry for 60 seconds before mounting the O-ring. 


In addition to standard moulded O-rings, Seal House can produce Vulcanised O-rings on request.
In a Vulcanised O-ring, O-ring Cord is cut to suit and then welded together using a hot vulcanisation process. This technology provides a stronger joint than the standard glue joint.
Using this procedure, the O-ring is endless and without splice evidence. O-ring endurance and elasticity are very similar to those of standard moulded O-rings.

Most Standard O-rings are available ex-stock. Non standard (custom O-rings) are generally available on a 1-4 day turnaround.
